Intelligent charging

Simply fill up with electricity? There you go!

Comfortable charging with added value?

Driving to another city and charging the electric car with electricity - sounds easy, but unfortunately it is not yet. Sometimes you pay according to a time unit, sometimes a flat rate, sometimes you unlock the column via app, sometimes via RFID card.

With an electric vehicle you may have to invest a bit more time in the planning of your next trip to determine where suitable charging points are and determining if you need special accounts to use them. From April 2020, the urgently needed transparency is now to be provided.

A wild proliferation of connector systems

Unfortunately, different markets have established their own connector systems and standards, which are partly incompatible with regard, to the protocol. Within the markets, the plugging and logging systems are standardized, but in the absence of a uniform specification for the billing system, a proliferation of different regionally structured concepts has developed; in Germany, for example, almost every regional electricity supplier, some cities, and companies operate their own network of charging stations, each of which is subject to their own billing philosophy.

Conversion of charging stations necessary

With the new requirements of the measurement and calibration law as well as the Price Indication Ordinance, the basis for transparent billing is now to be created. For this purpose, all existing systems must be converted in accordance with the requirements. In order to retrofit the currently around 16,150 public charging stations (8th of March 2019, source: Bundesnetzagentur), the eMobility Association now welcomes a longer transition period so that companies can raise the necessary capital and at the same time invest in new facilities. However, newly emerging charging points must also meet the new requirements - no problem with ISO 15118.

Intelligent charge control with ISO 15118

The ISO 15118 standard "Road Vehicles - Vehicle-to-Grid Communication Interface" opens new possibilities for intelligent charge control and easy-to-use billing procedures. This has finally created the conditions for a uniform, fundamentally bidirectional control system and standardized billing procedures. On this basis, flexible and practical charging strategies can be presented. As a result, it is possible, for example, to control the charging power depending on the energy supply, the line capacity and the mobility requirements of the user in a targeted manner, which reduces the demand for required power and brings it into realistic ranges.
